Sound Familiar?
I've read all the books. Why hasn't anything changed?
I can explain my childhood perfectly. I still feel the same.
I know exactly what my patterns are — I just can't stop them.
I'm fine. I'm always fine. That's the problem.
I keep choosing people I have to earn.
The insight was never the problem.
My last therapist said I was doing great. My body disagreed.
I can't relax — even on vacation.
I understand it in my head. I just don't feel any different.
My shoulders live somewhere around my ears.
I'm tired even when I've done nothing.
Some change doesn't live in words.
Everyone says I'm so organized. They don't see the 2am scramble.
I've built a hundred systems — and abandoned a hundred systems.
I'm exhausted from making this look easy.
I can run a whole team — but I can't answer one email.
Every day starts with a plan and ends with an apology.
High-functioning is not the same as okay.
My body changed so fast I don't recognize myself.
Food used to be comfort. Now it's complicated.
Everyone congratulates me. Nobody asks how I actually feel.
I avoid mirrors. And cameras. And pool parties.
I know all the nutrition rules. Rules were never the problem.
The prescription came without a map.
Something's off. I just can't name it.
I function fine. I'm just… tired all the time.
I don't know if this is “bad enough” for therapy.
Therapy feels like something other people need more.
I keep waiting for it to pass. It hasn't.
You don't need the right words to start.

Developmental Trauma · NARM®
“You can name your attachment style. You've mapped your childhood. You're still living inside the same patterns.”
NARM® therapy works with patterns that started early — the people-pleasing, the perfectionism, the guilt — without making you relive the past. We work with what's happening now, so change actually holds.
“Your mind understands everything. Your body didn't get the memo.”
Somatic therapy works with the body, not just the story. Using Somatic Experiencing® methods, we help your nervous system finally release the stress it has been holding — gently, and at your pace.
“Everyone thinks you have it together. Only you know what it costs to look that way.”
Support for adults with ADHD who are exhausted from holding it all together. We address the anxiety and shame underneath — and build rhythms that don't rely on white-knuckling.
“Your body is changing faster than anyone prepared you for — and no one's talking about the feelings part.”
For anyone whose relationship with food or their body has gotten complicated — including alongside GLP-1 medications. Not eating disorder treatment; making peace with a changing body.
“You say yes when you mean no. You're tired of meeting everyone but yourself.”
You don't need a diagnosis or a perfect explanation to reach out. Start with the patterns further down this page — if one of them stops you, that's information worth following.
You've read the books. You've done the therapy. Something still isn't shifting.
You’re fluent in your own patterns. You can name your triggers and explain your history in language your last therapist would applaud. And yet here you are — still bracing, still performing, still carrying something the explanations never reached.
What you’re sensing is real. Some change doesn’t live in the story you tell about your life. It lives in your nervous system — in the survival strategies you built so long ago they feel like personality. That’s the level where I work.
You function beautifully on the outside while something feels off on the inside
Rest feels impossible — your system is always braced for the next thing
You say yes when you mean no, and saying no comes with a wave of guilt
You've done meaningful therapy before and want something that goes deeper
You suspect your body knows something your mind hasn't caught up to
Early relationships taught your nervous system how to survive. NARM® works with the patterns those lessons left behind — not by re-living what happened, but by reconnecting you with the adult agency underneath the old strategies.
✦ The only NARM®-certified therapist in Northeast Ohio
Your body holds the unfinished story of every stress it has carried. Using the principles and methods of Somatic Experiencing®, we track and release what’s stored in your nervous system — gently, at your pace, without retelling anything you don’t want to.
ADHD in adults — and especially in women — hides behind competence, perfectionism, and exhaustion. Through a nervous system lens, we look at what your ADHD actually costs you — and build rhythms that don’t depend on white-knuckling.
For anyone whose relationship with their body has gotten complicated — including those navigating GLP-1 medications and the feelings no prescriber warned them about. This is not eating disorder treatment; it’s making peace with a changing body.
You may not know what to call it. You know how it feels.
These are the patterns I commonly work with. If a single description stops you mid-scroll, that’s information worth paying attention to.
Hypervigilance
You can't turn off the scanning
Constantly reading the room, tracking every shift in tone, preparing for things that haven’t happened yet.
Collapse
You shut down instead of speaking up
In moments that call for your voice, something in you goes quiet. Freeze isn’t weakness — it’s survival.
People-Pleasing
Your needs come last, always
You’ve built your life around making things smooth for others. Your own wants feel almost illegitimate.
Procrastination
The gap between knowing and doing
You know exactly what you should do. Something stops you. It’s not laziness — it’s a nervous system in conflict.
Perfectionism
Good enough never feels safe
The bar keeps moving. Finishing things feels dangerous. The standards you hold yourself to are ones no one else could meet.
Fawning
Agreement as a survival skill
You became an expert at managing other people’s emotions to keep yourself safe. It worked then. It costs you now.
About Me
Hi, I'm Kate.
I work with people who have already tried to figure this out on their own — smart, capable adults who are tired of just understanding their patterns and are ready to be free of them.
I’m a Licensed Independent Social Worker-Supervisor with a Master’s from Case Western Reserve University, and the only NARM®-certified therapist in Northeast Ohio. My training also includes the principles and methods of Somatic Experiencing®, which means I work where neuroscience, developmental psychology, and the body’s own intelligence meet.
Sessions happen in my Beachwood office — a room designed to feel calm, unhurried, and entirely yours — or over secure video anywhere in Ohio.
No intake mountain. No pressure. Just a beginning.
Step 01
A Free 30-Minute Conversation
We talk about what’s bringing you here and whether my approach fits. No paperwork, no obligation. You’ll know within minutes whether this feels right.
Step 02
We Get to Know Your System
Early sessions are about how your nervous system operates — where it braces, where it collapses, what it’s been protecting you from. You don’t need to arrive with answers.
Step 03
The Work Finds Its Pace
Some weeks are quiet and steady, some are breakthroughs. Change built this way tends to hold, because it isn’t insight sitting on top of an unchanged nervous system — it’s the system itself learning something new.
Therapy is one of the most personal investments you’ll ever make, and how you pay for it shapes how private it stays. Working privately means no diagnosis on your permanent record, no insurance company reviewing your care, and no session caps deciding when you’re done. We work at the pace your nervous system needs — nobody else’s.
$215
per session
HSA and FSA accepted. A Superbill is provided after each session — many PPO plans reimburse a meaningful portion of out-of-network therapy.
The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM®) addresses complex and developmental trauma by working with present-day patterns rather than past memories. Instead of processing what happened, NARM® reconnects you with the adult agency underneath old survival strategies. It’s collaborative, forward-facing, and grounded in attachment theory and neuroscience. Kate Bergman is the only NARM®-certified therapist in Northeast Ohio.
Somatic therapy works with the body’s role in stress and trauma. Drawing on the principles and methods of Somatic Experiencing®, developed by Dr. Peter Levine, it tracks and gently releases the survival energy stored in the nervous system — without requiring you to retell painful events. It’s especially effective for people who feel talk therapy understood their story but didn’t change how they feel.
Sessions with Kate Bergman are $215 per session. This reflects specialized post-graduate training in NARM® and somatic approaches. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and a Superbill is provided after each session for out-of-network reimbursement — many PPO plans cover a significant portion.
The practice is primarily private pay, which keeps your care fully confidential — no required diagnosis, no insurance review of your treatment. A Superbill is provided so you can pursue out-of-network reimbursement through your own plan. Select MedMutual plans are accepted; you’re welcome to ask about this during your free consultation.
Yes. Secure video sessions are available to clients anywhere in Ohio, and the approaches Kate uses translate fully to telehealth. Many clients begin online and later move to in-person sessions at the Beachwood office.
They overlap heavily, especially in women, where both are chronically under-identified. ADHD affects executive function and emotional intensity; dysregulation affects how safe your body feels under stress. Many women experience both at once, which is why Kate approaches ADHD through a nervous system lens rather than as a list of productivity problems.
If you’re curious enough to be reading this, you’re probably ready. There’s no preparation required and nothing to figure out first. The free consultation exists exactly for this question.
You look fine. You are exhausted. Why high-functioning anxiety hides inside competence, why rest does not fix it, and what nervous system work does differently.
If years of talk therapy left you with insight but the same patterns, you didn’t fail therapy. Some change lives in the nervous system — here’s what works at that level.
